17th Headies Awards: Full List of Winners as Ceremony Returns to Lagos
Africa’s biggest music stars gathered at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Sunday night for the 17th edition of The Headies Awards, marking the event’s return to Nigeria after a two-year stint in Atlanta, USA.
Themed “Back to Base” and “Apologetically African,” this year’s ceremony celebrated outstanding achievements in African music during the eligibility period from April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024.
The 2025 edition introduced two new award categories – “Soundtrack of the Year” and “Best Performer (Live)” – further broadening the platform’s recognition of artistic excellence.
However, despite the excitement, the night faced several setbacks. Poor time management and technical difficulties disrupted the event, leading organisers to end the ceremony abruptly. As of 3:32 am WAT, winners had yet to be announced in several key categories, including Best R&B Single, Best Collaboration, Lyricist on the Roll, Best Rap Album, Best Inspirational Single, and various regional artiste awards.
One of the night’s early highlights was Funke Akindele’s blockbuster film, A Tribe Called Judah, which clinched the inaugural Soundtrack of the Year award.
A full list of announced winners is expected to be released by the organisers in the coming hours.
