Burna Boy Breaks Spotify Record With Biggest Streaming Year by African Artist

Nigerian music star Burna Boy has set a new milestone on Spotify, recording the biggest streaming year ever achieved by an African artist.

The Grammy-winning singer amassed 1.986 billion streams on the platform in 2025, placing him at the top of the continent’s streaming chart and ahead of fellow African heavyweights Wizkid, Tyla, Rema and Davido.

Spotify’s 2025 streaming figures show Wizkid finishing the year as the second most streamed African artist, with 1.81 billion streams. South African singer Tyla followed closely in third place after pulling in 1.67 billion streams.

Rema ranked fourth with 1.63 billion streams, while Davido completed the top five with 1.58 billion streams during the same period.

The rest of the top 10 was dominated by Nigerian acts. Asake recorded 1.52 billion streams, Ayra Starr reached 1.47 billion, CKay posted 1.38 billion, Seyi Vibez attracted 1.32 billion, and Mr Eazi closed the list with 1.26 billion streams.

Burna Boy’s record-breaking performance further cements his status as one of Africa’s most influential global music exports, reflecting the continued rise of Afrobeats and African music on the world stage.
