CXMT Becomes Mainland China’s Most Valuable Listed Company After Blockbuster Market Debut

ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China’s largest memory chip manufacturer, has become the most valuable listed company in mainland China after its shares soared more than 470% during their debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Market.

The sharp rise lifted the company’s market valuation to approximately 3.3 trillion yuan ($487.3 billion), surpassing every other publicly traded company in mainland China despite a recent downturn in global technology stocks.

Founded in 2016 by Chairman Zhu Yiming and headquartered in Hefei, Anhui Province, CXMT specializes in the production of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips. These chips are widely used in artificial intelligence data centers, smartphones, personal computers, tablets, and other electronic devices.

The company has disclosed that proceeds from its initial public offering (IPO) will primarily be invested in expanding memory chip production capacity and strengthening research and development efforts.

CXMT’s impressive stock market debut comes at a time when Chinese authorities are seeking to restore investor confidence following a market slump that erased more than $1.5 trillion in value in recent weeks. The successful listing is also viewed as a sign of strong domestic investor confidence in China’s semiconductor industry, as Beijing continues to push for greater technological self-sufficiency.

The global DRAM market remains dominated by South Korea’s Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, alongside U.S.-based Micron Technology. Together, the three companies account for roughly 90% of worldwide DRAM production.

Earlier this month, SK Hynix made headlines after raising $26.5 billion through a New York share offering – the largest-ever U.S. listing by a foreign company. The AI chip supplier sold 177.9 million American depositary shares at $149 each. Its stock climbed as much as 17% on its Nasdaq debut before giving back part of those gains in subsequent trading.

The South Korean chipmaker’s market capitalization surpassed $1 trillion in its home market in May, driven by surging global demand for artificial intelligence-related semiconductor technologies.
