Beautiful Nubia Alleges Melody Theft by Gospel Artistes

Veteran Nigerian singer Beautiful Nubia has accused gospel musicians Yinka Ayefele and a newer artiste identified as BBO of allegedly copying the melody of one of his songs without authorisation.

In a post shared on X on Tuesday, Beautiful Nubia, whose real name is Segun Akinlolu, claimed that Ayefele’s 2012 track My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti) and BBO’s recent release Amin both drew heavily from the melody of his original song Seven Lifes.

“There was Yinka Ayefele with ‘My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)’ in 2012 and now someone called BBO with ‘Amin’ this year. Both stole their melodies from our original song ‘Seven Lifes’,” the singer wrote.

Beautiful Nubia also questioned what he described as a pattern of disregard for intellectual property within the gospel music scene, urging artistes to respect copyright and originality. “When will Nigerians, especially the so-called gospel musicians, learn to respect copyright?” he added.

The respected folk musician, known for music rooted in culture and social commentary, said the issue highlights broader concerns about creativity and ethical standards in Nigeria’s music industry.

His comments have since sparked discussion online among fans and industry observers, reigniting debates over copyright protection and artistic integrity.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Ayefele nor BBO has issued a public response to the allegations.
