Iyanya Reacts to Accusation of Picking Side in Wizkid, Davido’s Beef
Afrobeats star Iyanya has responded to accusations that he has taken sides in the ongoing feud between two of Nigeria’s biggest music exports, Wizkid and Davido.
The rift between Wizkid and Davido resurfaced last year through a string of tense social media exchanges, reigniting a long-standing rivalry. In the midst of this, Iyanya – who previously collaborated with Wizkid on the hit song Sexy Mama – came under fire from some fans for allegedly switching allegiance by publicly showing support for Davido’s music.
The criticism resurfaced on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, after a user on X (formerly Twitter), @Akubasteeny, commented under one of Iyanya’s posts: “I thought Wiz was your friend. I am just wondering why you switched sides and turned into Davido’s boy.”
In a detailed response, Iyanya dismissed the claims and emphasized that he holds no bias or grudge against any artist. “I don’t have an issue with any artiste,” he wrote. “I played Wizkid’s Made in Lagos and Morayo just the same way I play every other artiste’s songs.”
He went on to explain that artists often listen to each other’s work as part of their craft, noting that fans are usually the ones fueling unnecessary drama. “Most artistes will not say this, but artistes are the first to listen to other artistes’ projects when they drop. It’s part of our job to know what’s happening in the game.”
Iyanya also credited his manager, Ubi Franklin, for introducing him to emerging talents. “I was playing Fola’s songs before he had a hit. Ubi loves discovering new sounds,” he said.
Reaffirming his neutral stance, Iyanya added that he regularly listens to albums by Fireboy, Joeboy, and other contemporaries. He even mentioned a recent run-in with Burna Boy at a club, saying they shared a good vibe.
“So make una stop this ‘friend or no friend’ narrative,” he concluded. “It’s fans who are trying to push an agenda that doesn’t exist.”
