Skales Opens Up About Strained Relationship with Wizkid
Nigerian singer Skales has revealed that he believes Grammy-winning artist Wizkid, his former label mate, has never liked him.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Listen podcast, the “Shake Body” singer shared his experiences with what he described as Wizkid’s apparent dislike for him.
“I have always felt that Wizkid didn’t like me. I don’t know why, but there were occasions where he showed his dislike for me,” Skales said.
He recalled a notable social media dispute with Wizkid, which stemmed from a casual remark during a Twitter Q&A session years ago. “I jokingly said, ‘My brother Wiz does not have my time anymore,’ and from there, Wizkid started insulting me, my father, and my mother. That’s to show you he probably had me in mind,” Skales claimed.
The singer added that the fallout escalated, with Wizkid accusing him of wearing fake jewellery, although Skales clarified that it was his then-girlfriend who had responded during the online spat.
Skales noted that he chose not to engage further, saying, “I pick my battles. When I know people will believe anything you say, I don’t need to fight you. Whatever I say, they are going to say I’m jealous or envious of Wizkid’s success.”
Despite his attempts to reconcile with Wizkid, Skales stated that the “Starboy” remained distant, reinforcing his belief that there was no mutual respect or friendship. “I have tried to make peace with him, but he was adamant. He didn’t like me; I can tell you for a fact,” Skales concluded.
