Acclaimed British designer Grace Wales Bonner is bringing her signature design flair to a new chapter of her partnership with adidas, this time paying tribute to basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
After dominating the fashion scene with her reimagined adidas Samba sneakers, which became global streetwear sensations, Wales Bonner is branching out with a fresh take on Abdul-Jabbar’s groundbreaking signature basketball shoe. The new design draws inspiration from the NBA icon’s storied career, blending basketball heritage with modern high-fashion aesthetics.
The upcoming sneaker features classic Los Angeles Lakers colors, a nod to Abdul-Jabbar’s championship-winning years, with a full-suede upper, croc-skin detailing on the three stripes, and a distinctive half shell-toe design. One of its most striking features is the Skyhook logo – a tribute to Abdul-Jabbar’s legendary, virtually unstoppable scoring move – placed prominently on the insole alongside Wales Bonner and adidas branding.
The collaboration goes beyond footwear, introducing a full apparel collection that includes a track jacket, track pants, tank top, and shorts, celebrating Abdul-Jabbar’s influence both on and off the basketball court.
