Stellantis Recalls 375,000 Jeep Plug-In Hybrids Over Fire Risk, Advises Owners to Park Outside
Automaker Stellantis is recalling approximately 375,000 Jeep plug-in hybrid SUVs worldwide due to a battery defect linked to vehicle fires. The company is urging affected owners to park their vehicles outdoors and avoid charging them until repairs are completed.
The recall affects certain 2020–2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe models and 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models. About 320,000 of the impacted vehicles are located in the United States, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Stellantis said it has recorded 19 vehicle fires connected to the issue and one injury. The company added that a repair solution is forthcoming and will be communicated to owners as soon as it is available.
The batteries involved were manufactured by Samsung SDI. Stellantis and Samsung conducted a joint investigation which linked the problem to the same defect involved in a 2024 recall of 154,000 Jeep plug-in hybrids, meaning some previously repaired vehicles will need to be fixed again, NHTSA said.
Stellantis reported nine fires in vehicles that had already received updated software from the earlier recall, and ten fires in vehicles not included in that recall. Samsung SDI has indicated that the probable root cause involves internal separator damage and other complex interactions within the battery cells.
This recall comes on the heels of another Stellantis action in October, when the company recalled more than 298,000 vehicles in the U.S. over a potential rollaway risk.
Owners are expected to receive instructions directly from Stellantis once final repairs are approved.
