Grand Theft Auto 6 Release Pushed Back to November 2026
Rockstar Games has announced another delay to the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, shifting its launch date to 19 November 2026. The highly anticipated title was originally slated for autumn 2025 before being postponed to May 2026. This latest adjustment marks the second official delay.
In a statement released on Thursday, the developer said it required additional time to deliver the level of quality that players have come to expect. The studio acknowledged the extended wait and expressed appreciation for fans’ patience.
The sequel will take players to Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida, including a modern reimagining of Vice City. The only two trailers released so far, including one published in May, have drawn massive attention online and offered glimpses into the story of protagonists Jason and Lucia.
The delay comes shortly after 31 employees were dismissed from Rockstar’s UK operations in October. The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain has accused the company of attempting to prevent union organising efforts, and demonstrations took place outside Rockstar offices in Edinburgh and London this week. The parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has not commented publicly.
The Grand Theft Auto franchise remains one of the most successful in gaming history. GTA 5, released in 2013, is the second best-selling video game of all time and continues to attract a large audience through its online mode.
Rockstar is known for lengthy development cycles and high production standards; its previous major title, Red Dead Redemption 2, was delayed several times before launch. With development costs rising across the industry, publishers have increasingly prioritised polished releases over meeting initial timelines.
When GTA 6 eventually arrives, analysts expect it to be one of the most expensive games ever developed – and potentially one of the biggest launches in entertainment history. Whether it will match the immense expectations surrounding it will only become clear once players finally get their hands on it.
