Omah Lay Speaks On Ego And Relationships In Nigerian Music Industry

Afrobeats star Omah Lay has shared candid insights into his personality and relationships within the Nigerian music scene, describing the industry as one driven largely by ego.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Nando Leaks podcast, the singer – whose real name is Omah Stanley Didia – said his personal disposition has shaped how he connects with others in the industry.

According to him, he maintains a small circle of friends, largely because he does not seek external validation and prefers to surround himself with people who genuinely understand his perspective and journey.

Omah Lay described himself as reserved, noting that while he considers himself easygoing, he also recognises that he has a strong sense of ego, which can make forming close relationships more difficult.

He added that the broader Nigerian music industry is characterised by similar traits, with many individuals navigating personal ambition and self-image, factors he believes can affect collaboration and friendships.

Despite this, the singer acknowledged the importance of balance, stating that he consciously makes efforts to remain humble at times, as unchecked ego could become a barrier to personal and professional growth.

His comments offer a glimpse into the interpersonal dynamics of the fast-growing Afrobeats industry, where rising global recognition continues to shape both opportunities and competition among artistes.
