My Ex Broke Up with Me for Kissing in Movie – Actress Sandra Okunzuwa

Nollywood actress and producer Sandra Okunzuwa has opened up about how a past relationship ended after her former boyfriend became upset over a romantic scene she acted in a movie.

Speaking during a recent episode of the BTS Reality podcast, the actress disclosed that the relationship collapsed after someone reportedly sent her boyfriend a clip showing her kissing a fellow actor on screen.

Okunzuwa explained that many people misunderstand what happens behind the scenes during the filming of romantic scenes, stressing that actors are usually working under highly controlled and uncomfortable conditions.

According to her, movie kisses are far from romantic because film sets are often crowded with crew members while directors continuously give instructions throughout the scene.

She noted that factors such as cameras, lighting equipment, production pressure and the presence of multiple people on set make it difficult for actors to feel emotionally connected during such scenes.

The actress admitted that romantic scenes can sometimes create tension in personal relationships, especially when partners struggle with jealousy or insecurity.

She added that while she initially felt her ex-boyfriend’s reaction stemmed from insecurity, she now understands why some people may find it difficult to date actors.

Okunzuwa also said she would personally support reducing kissing scenes in movies if filmmakers could still deliver quality storytelling without them.

The actress urged the public to remember that actors portray fictional characters as part of their profession and should not be judged based on onscreen roles.

She further emphasised the importance of separating an actor’s private life from the characters they portray in films.
