Allianz Life Confirms Major Data Breach Impacting Most US Customers
Insurance giant Allianz has disclosed that hackers accessed personal data belonging to a majority of its 1.4 million customers in North America following a cyber-attack on a third-party cloud system.
The company said the breach occurred on July 16, 2025, when attackers used a social engineering tactic to infiltrate a cloud-based customer relationship management platform used by Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America.
Allianz confirmed that personal information of customers, financial professionals, and some employees was compromised. However, it stressed that there was no evidence its core policy administration system or other company networks were accessed.
The German parent company reported the breach to US authorities, including the FBI, and filed details of the incident with the Maine attorney general’s office. It is now contacting affected individuals and offering support.
Allianz, which serves over 125 million customers worldwide, said it took “immediate action” to contain the attack. The company has not disclosed exactly how many people were impacted.
Social engineering attacks involve manipulating or deceiving users into revealing sensitive data, often by impersonating a trusted entity.
