Amazon, Hilton and Pepsi to Hire Thousands of Refugees in Europe

Amazon, Hilton Hotels, Adecco, and Microsoft are among the companies pledging to hire or provide career support to 5,000 Ukrainian and other refugees in Europe, in an effort to assist those fleeing persecution.

The global number of forcibly displaced individuals has reached a record high of 110 million.
Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission, expressed concern over refugees struggling to find employment despite their education, skills, and legal right to work in the EU.
Businesses across Europe offering support are crucial in enabling Ukrainian refugees to provide for themselves and their families.

Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, more than 5.9 million Ukrainian refugees currently reside in Europe, with many others seeking refuge from conflicts in Syria, Sudan, Afghanistan, and other regions.

The Tent Partnership for Refugees charity, coordinating these efforts, highlighted the challenges faced by female Ukrainian refugees in finding employment, such as language barriers and childcare responsibilities.

Companies like Amazon, Hilton, Marriott, and staffing agencies like Adecco have committed to hiring 13,680 refugees, while Accenture and Microsoft will provide training to over 86,000 individuals.

Amazon, which already pledged to hire 5,000 refugees in the US by 2024, will primarily offer positions in fulfillment and distribution but will consider refugees for different levels within the organization based on their skills and abilities.
