Artistes Who Have Refused to Perform at the Qatar 2022 World Cup: Shakira, Dua Lipa…

Since it was announced that Qatar was going to be the country chosen to host the 2022 World Cup, there have been countless examples of news and comments from celebrities who have hit out at FIFA’s choice and have blamed the organization for giving more importance to their own monetary gain than to human rights.

As reported by Marca, some soccer players have already stated on several occasions that they will wear the rainbow flag armband in support of the LGTBIQ+ community during their time at the 2022 World Cup, regardless of Qatar’s rules and laws.

Kahlid Salman, the World Cup ambassador, has not only had to negotiate with the players, but also with the artists that Qatar wanted to perform at their opening ceremony.

Who Are the Artistes Who Have Refused to Perform in Qatar?
It has not been easy to find singers who were willing to travel to the country and perform.
One of the most popular artists who has said ‘no’ to the World Cup has been pop sensation Dua Lipa. The singer has explained that she has never reached the point of negotiating because her decision was made from the beginning.

“I will be cheering England on from afar and I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup. One Love, Dua,” clarified Dua Lipa.

Another artist who has been on everyone’s lips for a few months now is Shakira. The artist has had a great boost in her music’s popularity thanks to her new single, where she dedicates a few words to Gerard Pique.

Rod Stewart was also one of the candidates to perform, but the singer recently explained why he declined the lucrative offer.

“They offered me a huge amount of money, over a million dollars for the performance, but I turned it down because I don’t think it’s right to go to a country with those ideas and values. I also think the Iranians should also stop supplying them with weapons,” Stewart confessed.

The artists who have said yes to Qatar and who we will be able to see perform are: J. Balvin, Robbie Williams, Jason Derulo, Clean Bandit, Sean Paul, Nora Fatehi, Black Eyed Peas, Jungkook of BTS and Nicki Minaj, Maluma and Myriam Fares.

The latter three have been in charge of creating the official song for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
