Burna Boy Displays Orderly Approach to Music Business, Says Veteran Singer Baba Fryo

Nigerian music veteran, Baba Fryo, has lauded Burna Boy for his orderly approach to the music business despite his alleged eccentricities. Speaking on the ‘Hoha’ podcast, the ‘Denge Pose’ crooner praised Burna Boy for consistently acknowledging the sources of his inspiration.

While expressing his admiration for Burna Boy’s conduct, Baba Fryo criticized rising artist Ruger for allegedly imitating his style of using an eyepatch without giving credit. He also called out Bella Shmurda for sampling his song without attribution.

Baba Fryo expressed disappointment over Ruger’s failure to seek permission before adopting his distinctive eyepatch style, recounting an incident where Ruger claimed inspiration from an unrelated event. He emphasized the importance of giving credit where it’s due, lamenting the tendency of some artists to overlook the contributions of predecessors.

In contrast, Baba Fryo commended Burna Boy for mentioning ‘Denge Pose’ and acknowledging him in his song, highlighting Burna Boy’s consistent adherence to ethical practices in the industry. Despite Burna Boy’s reputation for eccentricity, Baba Fryo emphasized that the artist consistently does the right thing.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Baba Fryo recalled granting permission to Adekunle Gold’s team for sampling his song, underscoring the importance of recognizing and honoring the creative contributions of predecessors.

Baba Fryo’s remarks shed light on the complexities of the Nigerian music industry, where issues of attribution and recognition remain significant concerns, especially among emerging artists.
