Cloud Imperium Games Reports Staff Layoffs Following CitizenCon

Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) has reportedly laid off several employees in the wake of the intense lead-up to CitizenCon. According to an ex-employee, the company has let go of a number of staff members without offering compensation, despite having required them to work seven-day weeks in preparation for the event.

The former employee, who shared the information on X (formerly Twitter), criticized CIG for “working staff to the bone without even a thank you” and suggested that a formal announcement regarding the layoffs is expected soon.

Multiple sources have confirmed that layoffs have taken place in recent days, though details regarding the scope of the job cuts remain unclear. It is believed that the majority of affected employees are from CIG’s Quality Assurance (QA) department. Some sources estimate the layoffs to involve around a dozen staff members, representing approximately 1% of the company’s workforce.

While the number of layoffs is still being clarified, this event follows a pattern observed earlier this year, when CIG quietly laid off around 100 staff across its Austin and Los Angeles offices. This previous round of cuts was spread out over several weeks, with affected employees reportedly asked to sign non-disclosure agreements.

As of now, Cloud Imperium Games has not issued any internal or public statements regarding the layoffs or potential restructuring within the company. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
