Dame Dash Ordered to Pay $4 Million in Defamation Lawsuit
Hip-hop mogul Dame Dash has been ordered to pay $4 million to filmmaker Josh Webber after being found guilty of defamation.
According to TMZ, the ruling stems from a legal battle between Dash and Webber, who initially filed the lawsuit last year, claiming he lost millions in potential earnings due to Dash’s remarks.
The dispute dates back to the 2019 film Dear Frank, which Dash was originally set to direct before being removed from the project. In 2024, during an appearance on the Earn Your Leisure podcast, the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder accused Webber of stealing from him, referencing their earlier legal battle.
Webber’s lawsuit alleged that Dash’s statements were damaging, leading to significant financial losses. The filmmaker previously sued Dash in 2019 for copyright infringement and defamation, after Dash allegedly attempted to rebrand Dear Frank as his own project, renaming it The List and shopping it to networks like BET. A court had already ruled against Dash in that case, ordering him to pay nearly $1 million.
Dame Dash has not publicly commented on the latest judgment.
His financial troubles have been mounting in recent years. In a separate case, his one-third stake in Roc-A-Fella, Inc. was auctioned off to settle unpaid debts, including back taxes and child support. However, Webber did not receive any of that money and has since taken further legal steps to recover the owed funds.
Webber’s legal team has also sought ownership of Dash’s media company, Poppington, LLC, and even filed a motion to have Dash’s engagement ring auctioned to help satisfy the judgment.
