Diddy Apologizes for 2016 Assault Video: “I Hit Rock Bottom, I’m Disgusted”
Diddy has issued a public apology regarding a disturbing video from 2016 that shows him violently assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel hallway.
On Sunday (May 19), the Bad Boy Records founder posted a video statement on Instagram, apparently filmed in Brazil, where his son King Combs is vacationing with his girlfriend.
Reflecting on the incident, Diddy said, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that. I was messed up—I mean, I hit rock bottom—but I make no excuses. My behaviour on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now.”
He continued, “I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”
The video, obtained by CNN on Friday (May 17), shows Diddy, wearing only a towel, running from his hotel room at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles. The footage from March 5, 2016, captures him grabbing Cassie by the neck, throwing her to the floor, kicking her, and seizing her personal items before retreating to his room. Cassie then attempts to call for help using a hotel phone, prompting Diddy to shove her down again and throw a vase at her while still clad in a towel.
Following the video’s release, REVOLT—where Diddy stepped down as chairman in November 2023 and sold his remaining shares in March 2024—issued a statement condemning his actions.
“We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the recent video circulating of our former chairman, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs,” the statement read. “Even with his recent separation from REVOLT, it is still our duty to address this matter and recognize the direct impact it has on our staff, our audience, and the culture we represent.”
The statement added, “REVOLT stands in solidarity with all who have been a victim of abuse and remain committed to upholding the values and integrity our community expects from us. We vehemently stand against any form of domestic abuse and will always be a fearless advocate for truth and accountability.”
