EbonyLife Place Launches The Afrobeat, World’s First Afrobeats-Themed Restaurant in Lagos
LIn a landmark fusion of music, culture, and cuisine, EbonyLife Place officially opens The Afrobeat today Thursday, May 29, 2025 – hailed as the world’s first restaurant dedicated to celebrating the global phenomenon of Afrobeats music.
Located in the vibrant heart of Victoria Island, The Afrobeat is far more than a dining venue. It is an immersive cultural destination, blending the pulse of Afrobeats with the richness of African culinary heritage. The restaurant pays homage to the genre’s global impact while spotlighting the roots from which it grew.

The menu is a carefully curated exploration of modern African cuisine, with each course – salad, soup, main, and dessert – crafted using locally sourced ingredients. The offerings reflect a fusion of traditional Nigerian flavors and international influences from the African diaspora, creating a sensory journey that mirrors the eclecticism of the music it celebrates.

Stepping into the space, guests are enveloped in an atmosphere that echoes the rhythm and soul of Afrobeats. The interior is layered with warm tones of red clay and terracotta, natural textures of wood and mud, and Afro-futuristic lighting elements. Curated by Trace, a pioneer in promoting Afrobeats globally, the décor features music videos, memorabilia, and art installations that honour the genre’s pioneers and rising stars.

Among the design highlights are a striking sculptural mask of an African king – a powerful symbol of identity and pride – and a sprawling mural capturing the energy, resistance, and creativity that define Afrobeats.
The grand opening drew a notable crowd of music legends, emerging artists, cultural tastemakers, and international guests who have contributed to the genre’s rise on the world stage.
Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife Place, described the restaurant as a cultural statement:
“The Afrobeat is a reflection of who we are and what we value. This restaurant is a bold move to celebrate the culture, curate its story, and give it a home in the city where it was born.”
The launch of The Afrobeat signals a new chapter for Lagos – a city that not only gave birth to Afrobeats but now hosts a living tribute to its global legacy.
