Eminem’s Stalker Sentenced to Up to 30 Years in Prison for Repeated Home Invasions
A Michigan man who twice broke into the home of rapper Eminem has been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison following his conviction for aggravated stalking and home invasion.
Matthew Hughes, 32, was handed two consecutive prison terms: 15 to 30 years for first-degree home invasion, and three to seven and a half years for aggravated stalking. The ruling came after a jury found him guilty last month, following a trial in which Eminem – real name Marshall Mathers – testified.
As part of the sentencing, Hughes is prohibited from contacting Eminem or coming within 500 feet of the rapper’s residence or workplace.
The most recent break-in occurred months after Hughes had been released on parole. His previous encounter with Eminem in 2020 made headlines after the rapper reportedly awoke to find Hughes standing behind him inside his Detroit-area home. When questioned by police, Hughes allegedly said he was there to kill the artist.
Following that incident, Hughes accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to five years of probation. However, a subsequent arrest for simple assault in November 2021 landed him in jail for violating the terms of his probation. After serving time, he was paroled in May 2023 – only to carry out the second break-in months later.
Hughes’ pattern of intrusion into Eminem’s life dates back even further. In 2019, he was arrested after being discovered sleeping in the guest house of a property once owned by the rapper.
The court’s latest decision marks the culmination of a years-long legal saga involving Hughes and his escalating obsession with the hip-hop star.
Eminem Once Approached Mariah Carey for a Role in 8 Mile
In unrelated entertainment news, a new revelation has emerged about Eminem’s 2002 semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile. According to music producer Damizza, the rapper once approached pop icon Mariah Carey to play the role of his mother in the film.
Speaking on the TFU Podcast, Damizza claimed Eminem requested a meeting with Carey to offer her the part. Initially hesitant, Carey reportedly declined until learning more about the project. When they eventually met, Eminem allegedly told her directly, “I want you to play my mother.”
According to Damizza, the offer caught Carey off guard and triggered a bout of insecurity. The role ultimately went to Kim Basinger, who earned praise for her portrayal.
Rumors of a past romantic involvement between Carey and Eminem have persisted since the early 2000s, though Carey has consistently denied any relationship.
