FLYGABON Expands Into Lagos, Launches Flights To Johannesburg And Other African Cities

FLYGABON, Gabon’s national airline, has officially commenced flight operations from Lagos as part of its expansion strategy across Nigeria and the African aviation market.

The airline said the move is aimed at improving connectivity between West, Central, and Southern Africa while supporting regional trade, tourism, and business travel.

FLYGABON had earlier launched operations from Port Harcourt in January 2025 and now operates a total of 10 weekly flights into Nigeria, including six from Port Harcourt and four from Lagos.

A major focus of the airline’s expansion is its Lagos-to-Johannesburg route, which it says offers Nigerian travellers a significantly shorter travel time compared to several existing alternatives.

According to the airline, passengers can complete the journey in approximately seven hours and 40 minutes through its Libreville hub, reducing the longer travel durations often experienced on other routes.

The airline said its schedule has been designed with daytime departures and arrivals to improve convenience and passenger safety.

Beyond Johannesburg, FLYGABON also connects travellers from Lagos to 19 additional African destinations, including cities such as Douala, Brazzaville, Malabo, Kinshasa, and São Tomé.

Speaking on the launch, FLYGABON Chairman Marc Gaffajoli described Nigeria as one of Africa’s most important aviation markets and a key part of the airline’s long-term growth plans.

He said the Lagos expansion would create faster and more efficient travel options for passengers moving across the continent.

Gaffajoli also acknowledged the financial pressures currently affecting the aviation industry, particularly rising fuel costs, but stated that the airline’s strategy focuses on operational efficiency and sustainability rather than simply offering the lowest fares.

Country Director for Cameroon and Nigeria, Fadimatou Noutchemo, said the new operations are intended to simplify travel for Nigerians by reducing long journey times and offering more flexibility.

According to the airline, ticket prices for the Lagos-to-Johannesburg route start from ₦704,900.

Passengers travelling with the airline will also receive benefits including two 23kg baggage allowances in economy class, flexible ticket options, and onboard meal services.

FLYGABON operates a fleet that includes Airbus A320 and Bombardier CRJ aircraft designed to improve passenger comfort and luggage capacity.

The airline added that tickets are available through its official website, with payment options currently supporting Naira cards and plans underway to introduce bank transfers and mobile money payments in local currency.

FLYGABON also stated that it maintains international safety standards through certification by the International Air Transport Association and continued IOSA safety certification.

The airline, which has operated for more than two decades, said its Lagos expansion is expected to provide Nigerian travellers and businesses with additional options for intra-African travel and connectivity.
