Fortnite to Shut Down Multiple Game Modes Following Epic Games Restructuring

Epic Games has announced plans to discontinue several popular game modes in Fortnite, citing low player engagement and recent internal restructuring.

The affected modes include Rocket Racing, Ballistic and Festival Battle Stage. According to the company, Ballistic and Festival Battle Stage will be removed on April 16, 2026, while Rocket Racing will remain available until October 2026 before being retired.

In a statement, Epic Games acknowledged that some of its newer experiences failed to attract and retain a strong player base. The company expressed appreciation to players who engaged with the modes but said it was necessary to refocus resources on more successful areas of the game.

The announcement comes shortly after reports of significant layoffs at Epic Games, with around 1,000 employees affected. Industry observers say the decision to scale back certain Fortnite modes may be part of broader cost-cutting and restructuring efforts within the company.

Fortnite, one of the world’s most popular free-to-play games, has evolved over the years with multiple modes and experiences beyond its core battle royale format. However, not all additions have achieved long-term success.

While the removal of these modes may disappoint segments of the community, Epic Games is expected to continue investing in features and updates that drive higher player engagement.

Further changes to Fortnite’s ecosystem could follow as the company adjusts its strategy in response to shifting player preferences and industry pressures.
