Hunter Biden Withdraws Lawsuit Against Fox News for Second Time

Hunter Biden has once again dropped a lawsuit against Fox News, marking the second time he has voluntarily withdrawn legal action over the network’s broadcast of a dramatized series featuring explicit content and personal allegations.

The lawsuit centered on a 2022 Fox Nation miniseries that portrayed a fictional “mock trial” examining Biden’s foreign business dealings and personal life. The series included intimate images of him with women – believed to be sourced from the now-infamous laptop he allegedly left at a Delaware repair shop.

Biden’s legal team had accused the conservative outlet of violating “revenge porn” laws and defamation statutes, asserting that the program was designed to humiliate him and damage his reputation. However, no explanation was provided in court filings for why the case was dropped on Friday. The decision came shortly after Biden’s legal team failed in an attempt to move the case from federal court to New York state court.

Fox News responded with a statement calling the lawsuit “meritless” and politically driven. “We are pleased to move on now that Hunter Biden has finally voluntarily withdrawn this meritless case, which proved to be nothing more than a politically motivated stunt,” a Fox spokesperson said.

This is not the first time Biden has taken legal action over the series. He filed a lawsuit last summer, withdrew it after several weeks, then refiled in October 2024. The latest withdrawal is “with prejudice,” meaning the case cannot be refiled again.

The series in question focused on Hunter Biden’s business ties in Ukraine and China during his father’s vice presidency, as well as his struggles with addiction. Following public backlash and legal threats, Fox Nation removed the series from its streaming platform in April 2024, but Biden proceeded with the lawsuit nonetheless.

Beyond the Fox News case, Biden has recently pulled back from other legal fights. In April, he dropped a lawsuit against the IRS, which sought damages for alleged violations of his taxpayer privacy. That suit accused two IRS whistleblowers of improperly sharing his tax details with House Republicans. Biden also withdrew a lawsuit related to his laptop against a former Trump White House aide.

The IRS whistleblowers – Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler – were reportedly promoted during the Trump administration and later held senior advisory roles under Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Shapley was briefly appointed as acting IRS commissioner by Trump before being removed from the post.

Reacting to the dropped case, the whistleblowers said, “We truly wanted our day in court… but it appears Mr. Biden was afraid to actually fight this case in a court of law after all.”

Hunter Biden, who was convicted last year on federal gun charges and pled guilty to tax-related offenses, was later granted a full pardon by President Joe Biden in December – despite the president’s previous pledge not to offer clemency for his son.
