I’m Raising My Kids Alone – Funke Akindele [VIDEO]
Nollywood star Funke Akindele has revealed that she is solely responsible for raising her children, stating that her estranged husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz, is not actively involved in their upbringing.
The actress made the revelation during a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where she opened up about her emotional struggles following a series of personal and professional setbacks – including the loss of her mother, a failed marriage, and her political defeat in the 2023 elections.
Akindele, who married JJC Skillz in 2016 and welcomed twin boys in 2018, has largely remained quiet about the breakdown of their relationship. However, JJC Skillz publicly announced their separation in June 2022 via Instagram, stating that they were going their separate ways while still having unresolved matters regarding custody and business interests.
In the emotional interview, Akindele described the toll that grief and public scrutiny took on her, explaining how she tried to suppress her pain after losing her mother and enduring the collapse of her marriage.
“I don’t like to mourn. When my mum passed, I just wanted to get it over with quickly. I kept pushing everything down, but it caught up with me,” she said. “I lost my mum, my marriage ended, I lost in politics, I had to go back to work, and I’m raising my children alone. Then people were still coming at me online. It broke me.”
The actress also recounted a rare moment when she went live on social media in frustration after being falsely accused of misconduct by an online user. “I just broke down. For the first time, I cried and couldn’t stop for weeks,” she shared.
Akindele’s openness has sparked widespread support from fans and colleagues, many of whom have praised her strength and resilience in the face of personal adversity.
