Jide Kosoko Claims Some Actresses Trade Sex for Fame in Nollywood

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that some actresses deliberately enter the film industry with the intention of leveraging sexual relationships to advance their careers.

Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, Kosoko addressed the long-debated issue of sex-for-roles in Nollywood, arguing that it is not always a case of producers or directors coercing actresses into inappropriate relationships. Instead, he claimed that some women knowingly engage in such exchanges as a strategy to rise to fame.

Dismissing the notion that industry figures force actresses into compromising situations, he stated:

“If I said I need you to warm my bed so that I can give you a role, and you said no, they cannot force you to do it. And if you want that role by all means, that means you want to dance to his tone.”

Kosoko acknowledged that while it is inappropriate for anyone in a position of power to make such advances, those who willingly participate in such arrangements do so by choice.

“I’m not saying it’s right to have introduced that to you, but if you fall for it, that’s your own business. How does that concern the whole world? Forget about all this sex-for-roles talk. I know some ladies who came into the industry with the determination that, by the time they sleep with this person and that person, they will make a name for themselves.”

The actor also claimed that some well-known actresses and even a magistrate had used similar means to achieve success.

His comments have since sparked debate, adding to the ongoing conversation about ethical concerns and power dynamics in Nollywood.
