Joeboy Opens Up About Struggles with Forgiveness

In a recent appearance on the Zero Conditions Podcast, Nigerian music sensation Joeboy delved into his thoughts on forgiveness and the challenges he faces when it comes to letting go of grievances.

The conversation touched on various aspects of Joeboy’s career, journey to stardom, and his musical perspectives. However, it was Joeboy’s candid remarks about forgiveness that drew significant attention during the podcast.

When the topic of “forgive and forget” surfaced, Joeboy admitted to struggling with forgiving individuals who wrong him. He explained that this difficulty arises from his commitment to treating people with kindness and respect. The singer expressed that it becomes deeply personal for him when he is hurt by someone in a manner he wouldn’t replicate.

Joeboy articulated his feelings, stating, “It’s hard for me to forgive and forget, I can’t lie. I’m sorry but I’m trying though. I can hold a grudge because one thing I like to do when it comes to relationships with people is to make sure I do everything right. So when someone acts funny with me I take it personally because I’d never do that to you, why are you doing that to me? That’s why I take it personally.”

The singer further revealed that, when he does manage to let go of past grievances, he prefers to distance himself from the wrongdoer. His reasoning behind this is connected to his tendency not to sever ties hastily. Therefore, if someone exhausts the multiple chances he offers, he eventually cuts them off.

“I might even forgive, but it would take a while though,” Joeboy remarked, adding, “but I’d forgive. It’d be very difficult to give the person access again.”

Reflecting on his own journey to understanding forgiveness, Joeboy shared a valuable lesson he had learned from a friend. He emphasized that lowering one’s expectations of others can be a helpful approach in navigating the complexities of forgiveness and personal relationships.

Joeboy’s candid insights on forgiveness offer fans and listeners a glimpse into the artist’s personal values and perspectives on human interactions.
