Joeboy Says Tyla Deserved Grammy Win Ahead Of Nigerian Nominees

Nigerian singer Joeboy has weighed in on the debate surrounding Tyla’s victory at the Grammy Awards earlier this year.

Tyla won the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammys with her hit track “Push 2 Start,” beating several Nigerian nominees including Davido, Omah Lay, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy.

Her win sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans questioning whether she deserved the award over the Nigerian artists nominated in the category.

However, speaking during a recent interview with Jay On-Air, Joeboy said Tyla fully earned the recognition.

He admitted that he had personally hoped Davido would take home the award but stressed that Tyla’s win was still well deserved.

According to him, the South African star has worked hard and proven herself as a talented performer.

“Personally, I was rooting for Davido to win the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammys, but you can’t take it away from Tyla,” he said. “She is an amazing artist whether you accept it or not. She really put in the work.”

He added that regardless of public reactions, Tyla’s achievement should be respected.

“People can be angry all they want, but she deserved the Grammy win. I can’t fault her triumph.”

Joeboy also revealed that Tyla is one of the artists he would love to collaborate with in the future, praising both her talent and strong work ethic.
