Kanye West’s Apology Draws Mixed Response from ADL

Kanye West’s recent apology for his past antisemitic remarks has received a mixed response from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), expressing uncertainty about the sincerity of his remorse. In a statement posted on Twitter on Tuesday (December 26), the ADL acknowledged the potential significance of Kanye’s apology but emphasized that actions would speak louder than words.

The ADL stated, “After causing untold damage by using his vast influence and platform to poison countless minds with vicious antisemitism and hate, an apology in Hebrew may be the first step on a long journey towards making amends to the Jewish community and all those who he has hurt. Ultimately, actions will speak louder than words, but this initial act of contrition is welcome.”

Kanye West, also known as Ye, issued an apology on his reactivated Instagram account, expressing regret for any unintended harm caused by his previous antisemitic comments. The apology, written in Hebrew, conveyed West’s commitment to learning from the experience, promoting unity, and making amends with the Jewish community.

While some individuals in the comments appreciated Kanye’s gesture, Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg remained critical, questioning the choice of Hebrew for the apology. Michael Rapaport suggested that Kanye visit Israel to witness the impact of his words firsthand.

Kanye West’s antisemitic comments date back to October 2022, leading to severed ties with various companies. His recent apology is seen as a potential step towards reconciliation, though scepticism remains among some commentators.
