Kendrick Lamar Shares New Song in Short Film for Chanel

Renowned rapper Kendrick Lamar has collaborated with luxury fashion house Chanel to unveil a new song featured in a captivating short film. On Saturday (January 20), Chanel released a mini-movie starring actress Margaret Qualley, accompanied by the soundtrack crafted by the Compton native. The short film aims to build anticipation for an upcoming visual package of Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2024 show, which transpired last year.

According to a statement by pgLang, the creative agency co-founded by Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free, the collaboration was initiated at the invitation of Virginie Viard, bringing Lamar and Free into the world of CHANEL Haute Couture for the first time. The film, titled “The Button,” revolves around the themes of time and transmission, featuring Margaret Qualley alongside actress and House ambassador Anna Mouglalis and friend of the House Naomi Campbell.

Kendrick Lamar, known for pushing boundaries and setting high standards throughout his career, continues to influence fellow artists. Kid Cudi recently credited Lamar with inspiring his upcoming album during an hour-long interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.

Cudi shared his realization after witnessing Lamar’s performance in Paris on The Big Steppers Tour, saying, “I had this moment where I was like, ‘You know what? This is the reaction I want.’ I want people to feel good and it to be a joyous occasion when I’m performing.”

The collaboration between Kendrick Lamar and Chanel not only adds a musical dimension to the fashion brand’s visual presentation but also showcases the ongoing influence and inspiration Lamar holds in the music industry.
