Kevin Spacey Cleared of Sexual Assault Charges

Renowned American actor Kevin Spacey has been acquitted of sexual assault charges brought against him in the United Kingdom.

The “House of Cards” star faced accusations of sexual misconduct from four men, covering incidents that allegedly occurred between 2001 and 2013. The trial took place at Southwark Crown Court in London and lasted four weeks, with iconic singer Elton John appearing as a defence witness.

Throughout the trial, Spacey pleaded “not guilty” to all charges, maintaining that his accusers were motivated by financial gain and were not telling the truth.

After more than 12 hours of deliberation, the jury reached a verdict of “not guilty” on Wednesday, as reported by Daily Mail.

The actor was cleared of seven counts of sexual assault, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.

Kevin Spacey was visibly emotional as the verdict was delivered, and afterwards, he expressed his gratitude to the jury in a speech.

He said, “I imagine that many of you can understand that there’s a lot for me to process after what has just happened today. But I would like to say that I am enormously grateful to the jury for having taken the time to examine all of the evidence and all of the facts carefully before they reached their decision.”

The actor continued, “I am humbled by the outcome today. I also want to thank the staff inside this courthouse, the security, and all of those who took care of us every single day.”

The public allegations against Kevin Spacey first surfaced in 2017 when Hollywood actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making unwanted sexual advances toward him at a party in 1986 while Rapp was under the influence of alcohol. In 2020, Rapp filed a lawsuit, but in 2022, Spacey was found “not liable” for the claims.

The verdict marks the end of a high-profile trial that had garnered significant media attention, and Kevin Spacey can now put the legal battle behind him.
