Kia Recalls Over 400,000 Telluride SUVs Over Park Safety Concerns

Kia has initiated a recall of 427,407 Telluride SUVs due to a potential safety issue that could cause the vehicles to move while in park, according to a report released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this week.

The recall encompasses all Telluride models manufactured between 2020 and 2023, as well as specific 2024 models. The reported defect involves a crucial component of the SUV’s steering wheel, which may have been improperly assembled during production.

Although the Telluride has enjoyed widespread popularity among American consumers since its launch in late 2019, boasting a spacious interior and garnering high demand, this safety concern has prompted Kia to take swift action.

The NHTSA report indicates that the malfunctioning component can lead to damage over time, resulting in unintended movement of the vehicles while parked if the parking brake is not engaged. Symptoms of the defect may include a grinding noise when the damage occurs.

Owners of affected Telluride vehicles are urged to promptly bring their cars to a Kia dealership for the installation of updated electronic parking brake software. Kia has assured that the cost of the repair will be covered, with reimbursement provided to affected car owners, as stated by the NHTSA.
