Queens native Nicki Minaj has once again taken the music scene by storm, dropping a scorching new track titled “Press Play.” In this latest musical venture, she teams up with Atlanta’s own Future, creating a dynamic collaboration that has fans buzzing with excitement.
Produced by ATL Jacob, “Press Play” is featured on the recently released “Gag City PLUTO Edition” of Minaj’s Pink Friday 2LP. The track showcases Minaj’s signature style, with fiery verses and bold lyricism. In the song, she sets the tone with lines like, “Set the tone like a vocal coach/ They said, ‘Why can’t you be Yoncé?’/ Daddy wasn’t no business man, mama wasn’t no business owner,” asserting her dominance in the rap game.
Nicki Minaj continues to make waves with Pink Friday 2, as the album achieves remarkable milestones. Chart Data reports that the album has broken records by becoming the fastest project by a female rapper to surpass one billion streams on Spotify. This achievement marks Minaj as the first female rapper in history to have five albums with over one billion streams on the platform.
The previous albums that reached this milestone include Pink Friday (2010), Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012), The Pinkprint (2014), and Queen (2018). Pink Friday 2, released in December on Minaj’s 41st birthday, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, securing 228,000 first-week units.
Nicki Minaj’s chart-topping success with Pink Friday 2 extends her record-breaking streak. She now stands as the first female rapper to achieve three No. 1 albums, breaking a tie with Foxy Brown. Foxy Brown, who previously held the record with two No. 1 albums in the 1990s, congratulated Minaj on social media, acknowledging her remarkable accomplishment.
Pink Friday 2 also made history on the Billboard Hot 100, with 17 out of its 22 songs landing on the chart. This achievement sets a new record for the most songs from any album by a female rapper to chart on the Hot 100.
