Nicki Minaj Removed as Codefendant in Husband’s Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Nicki Minaj has been excluded as a defendant in the ongoing sexual assault lawsuit against her husband, Kenneth Petty. Jennifer Hough, the plaintiff, has amended the caption to name Petty as the sole defendant, while Minaj continues to be a significant figure in the legal proceedings. Petty was previously found guilty in 1995 of attempting to rape Hough the year before.

The amendment comes amid accusations from Hough that Minaj made threats against her in an effort to coerce her into retracting statements about Petty. Despite these claims, Petty’s attorneys argue that Hough’s actions are an attempt to embarrass both Petty and Minaj, fueled by Minaj’s high-profile celebrity status.

In response to the developments, attorney Steven D. Isser asserted that Hough’s motion was unnecessary and driven by bad faith. He highlighted the public filing of numerous exhibits and interviews given to the media, suggesting that Hough’s true purpose was questionable.

As of now, Kenneth Petty remains under house arrest, a sentence imposed in September after he allegedly made threats to ex-Migos rapper Offset during an Instagram Live session. The judge deemed these threats a violation of his probation.

The order stipulated that Petty’s threatening remarks on video, coupled with his association with an individual with a criminal record, raised concerns about his compliance with court orders. The placement in the Location Monitoring Program aims to closely monitor Petty’s activities, limit his movements, and serve as a sanction for non-compliance.

Petty, 45, received three years of probation and one year of house detention in July 2022 for failing to register as a sex offender in California. This status originated from a 1995 conviction for the first-degree attempted rape of Hough, who was 16 at the time. After spending four years in prison, Petty and Minaj moved to California in 2019, shortly before getting married.
