Nigerian Customs Service Generates N4.2 Trillion in Revenue Over Nine Months, Surpassing Previous Years
The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has announced a remarkable revenue milestone, generating N4.2 trillion in the first nine months of 2024. This achievement, revealed by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, during a workshop in Lagos, reflects significant growth in the service’s operations compared to previous years.
Represented by the Comptroller of the Tincan Island Port Command, Dera Nnadi, Adeniyi highlighted that the NCS has already exceeded its total revenue collections for 2022 and 2023. The service is on track to surpass its 2024 target of N5.3 trillion by the end of the year.
“What this means is that we have already surpassed our 2023 collection by over N1 trillion, even though the year is not yet over,” Adeniyi noted. He attributed this achievement to the service’s investment in digital technology and innovation, stating, “We are making steady progress by deploying digitalization, ICT, and innovation in our business processes.”
In comparison, the NCS collected N2.6 trillion in 2022, illustrating the substantial growth achieved through these advancements. The Nigerian government’s total revenue for 2023, according to the Federal Inland Revenue Service, stood at N12.37 trillion, further highlighting the Customs Service’s critical role in national revenue generation.
