Radio Host Lolo 1 Reveals She Was Raped by Industry Colleague

Nigerian broadcaster and actress Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo 1, has shared a deeply personal story of sexual assault, revealing that she was raped by a colleague in the media industry.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Say My Piece podcast, which she co-hosts, Lolo 1 opened up about the traumatic experience, admitting that although she is not yet ready to share full details, the incident has left lasting emotional scars.

“I rarely talk about this, and I’m still not ready to say it all,” she said. “I’ve been raped once in my life, and it was by someone I worked with. I still see him regularly, and each time, it throws me into a state of panic.”

Lolo described a recent conversation with her daughter, who reacted with compassion after learning about her mother’s ordeal. “She held my hand and said, ‘Mummy, you’ve been through a lot.’ And I said, ‘Yes, I have.’”

While she refrained from naming the individual involved, Lolo noted that her silence over the years was partly driven by fear of public backlash – especially now that the alleged perpetrator holds a prominent position in the industry.

“If I named him today, people would ask why I kept quiet all this time, especially now that he’s gaining more visibility,” she said. “That’s the burden women often carry – first denial, then blaming themselves.”

Her revelation adds to the ongoing discourse about sexual violence in Nigeria and the pressures survivors face when choosing whether or not to speak out.
