Seun Kuti Criticizes Monogamy, Advocates for Polygamy Among Men
Controversial Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has sparked debate by criticizing monogamy and advocating for polygamy. During his appearance on the ‘Bahd & Boujee’ podcast, the Afrobeat artist argued that monogamy is ineffective and urged men to embrace having multiple women.
Kuti suggested that polygamy is a sign of power and affluence. “Monogamy doesn’t work,” he stated. “As a powerful man, you must have the support of numerous powerful goddesses. Women come into your life because the ancestors put them there, and you share with them.”
He referenced his father, the legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who famously married 27 women in one day and had over 100 concubines throughout his life, as an example of embracing polygamy.
Despite his views, Seun Kuti himself is publicly known to be married to one woman, his wife Yetunde Kuti.
