Stellantis Recalls Over 1.2 Million Ram Trucks Due to Brake System Software Issue
Stellantis, the global automaker, is recalling more than 1.2 million Ram 1500 trucks due to a software glitch in the anti-lock brake system (ABS), according to a statement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall affects specific models from 2019 and 2021 to 2024.
A routine investigation by Stellantis uncovered that the ABS software in some Ram 1500 trucks could unintentionally disable the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. The company emphasized that even if the ESC system is disabled, the truck’s primary braking function would remain intact. However, warning lights for the ABS, ESC, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward Collision Warning systems would activate when the vehicle is started, indicating the systems are unavailable.
Stellantis has committed to updating the ABS software free of charge to affected vehicle owners and assured that no injuries or accidents related to the issue have been reported.
This latest recall follows a similar one in June, where nearly 158,000 Ram 2500 trucks were recalled for a related issue.
In addition to the Ram recall, the NHTSA also announced that Stellantis is recalling certain Jeep models, including 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiators and 2018-2024 Jeep Wranglers, due to an internal short circuit in the instrument panel cluster that could lead to failure.
