Tesla Halts Cybertruck Deliveries Over Loose Trim Issue

Tesla has temporarily halted deliveries of its Cybertruck due to concerns over loose trim pieces, marking yet another challenge for the electric pickup. Reports indicate that parts of the truck’s trim – specifically along the roof and edges – may detach or even fall off while driving.

According to posts on the Cybertruck Owners Forum and Electrek, Tesla service representatives have informed customers that their vehicles are under a “containment hold.” This means deliveries are paused until the company resolves the quality issue.

What’s the Problem?

While Tesla has not officially addressed the issue, leaked messages from a customer’s conversation with a service representative suggest that the “cantrail” – a trim piece above the truck’s doors – is not securely attached. Poor adhesive may be causing it to loosen, raising safety concerns.

This is not the first trim-related problem for the Cybertruck. In 2023, Tesla recalled over 11,000 units due to similar issues with the trunk trim.

How Long Will the Delay Last?

It remains unclear when Tesla will resume deliveries. Some reports suggest the fix could take weeks, depending on the scale of the problem. So far, Tesla has not provided an official timeline.

The Cybertruck’s rollout has been plagued by multiple setbacks. Since its launch in December 2023, the vehicle has faced seven recalls, with problems ranging from loose components to software glitches. While Tesla has sold approximately 40,000 units, over one million reservations remain unfulfilled.

Additionally, reports have surfaced of unsold Cybertrucks appearing in used car lots, further raising concerns about demand. In late 2024, Tesla also instructed some factory workers at its Austin, Texas plant to stay home temporarily, hinting at potential production slowdowns.

For now, eager Cybertruck buyers will have to wait as Tesla works to resolve its latest quality issue.
