Tragedy Strikes as 63-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Impaled by Beach Umbrella

In South Carolina, a woman has died in a freak accident after being impaled in the chest by a beach umbrella propelled by a gust of wind.

According to Horry County Deputy Coroner, Tamara Willard, “On Wednesday afternoon, Tammy Perreault, was enjoying a day at the beach in Garden City when the umbrella broke free from its anchor and directly impaled the woman.”

After the umbrella struck the 63-year-old woman, off-duty medical professionals and bystanders tried to help her while medical services arrived, officials said.

However, according to WMBC, Perreault died about an hour later at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital from chest trauma.

“This is a terrible loss, and we know our community is hurting,” said Thomas Bell, spokesman for Horry County Emergency Management.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends as they go through this difficult time,”
