Twitter Tests ‘Notes’ Feature With 2,500 Word Limit

Social media giant, Twitter has commenced the testing of a new feature called ‘Notes,’ which will allow users to share ‘notes’ as long as 2,500 words.

Twitter posts are currently limited to 280 characters.

According to Twitter, the move was a response to seeing people use the platform to post pictures of longer posts and eventually take them to newsletters and content outside the Twitter platform.

The test is expected to run for two months and will involve a small group of writers in Canada, Ghana, US and the UK.

The new feature is designed to keep users within the Twitter eco-system, giving users the ability to see headlines and access the longer notes by clicking on links.

“Since the company’s earliest days, writers have depended on Twitter to share their work, get noticed, be read, create conversation – everything but the actual writing,” the company said, making the announcement using the new ‘Notes’ feature.

“With Notes, the goal is to fill in that missing piece.”
