Tyla Makes History as First African to Host Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards

South African music sensation Tyla is set to break new ground as the first African artist to host the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, marking a major milestone in her fast-rising global career.

The announcement was made on Thursday as Nickelodeon revealed the host and full list of nominees for the 2025 edition of the awards show. This year’s ceremony will be broadcast live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on June 21.

Tyla, who recently won a Grammy Award, is not only hosting the show but is also nominated in two major categories – Favourite Global Music Star and Favourite Music Collaboration for her song “Show Me Love” with WizTheMc and bees & honey.

Reacting to the announcement on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, the singer expressed excitement, posting, “I’m really about to host the Kids’ Choice Awards.”

Tyla joins a star-studded list of nominees led by Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, and Lady Gaga, who each received four nominations. Other top contenders include Selena Gomez, Dwayne Johnson, Jelly Roll, and Jack Black, all with three nominations apiece.

The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards is known for celebrating fan-favourite stars across music, film, television, and digital media, with its signature orange blimps and slime-filled festivities. Tyla’s role as host adds a fresh layer of diversity and global appeal to the 2025 edition.
