Woli Arole Criticises Trend of Surrogacy Among Healthy Women, Calls Natural Pregnancy a ‘Blessing’
Nigerian comedian and media personality Woli Arole has voiced his concerns over the growing trend of women opting for surrogacy despite being medically fit to carry their own pregnancies.
In a recent Instagram post, Arole described natural pregnancy as a divine privilege, urging women not to embrace what he referred to as “wokeness” at the expense of traditional childbearing.
“It is a blessing for a woman to carry her baby in her womb; that is how God wants it,” he wrote. “Do not let wokeness derail you.”
While acknowledging the importance of alternative reproductive methods such as surrogacy and in vitro fertilisation (IVF), Arole stressed that such options should be reserved for women facing medical complications, not for those simply choosing not to carry a pregnancy.
“You cannot say, ‘My body, my decision. I do not feel like carrying a child; I want surrogacy.’ No, your body is God’s temple,” he added.
The comedian’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some supporting his stance and others accusing him of policing women’s reproductive choices.
Surrogacy and assisted reproductive technologies have been on the rise globally, including in Nigeria, where discussions around bodily autonomy, fertility challenges, and evolving family structures continue to generate public debate.
