Yahoo Yahoo: ‘EFCC Cracking Down on Internet Fraudsters Because of Their Lifestyles’ – Portable
Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has attributed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) intensified efforts against internet fraudsters to their lavish lifestyles.
In a video message shared on his Instagram account, Portable argued that the luxurious living of these fraudsters, often referred to as “Yahoo boys,” has drawn the attention of the EFCC. He pointed out that many of these individuals indulge in extravagant spending while neglecting their struggling parents.
“Why won’t EFCC arrest the youths when they are doing Yahoo, using iPhone 15 and lodging in hotels, but their mothers are selling akara [bean cake] and their fathers are suffering,” Portable stated.
However, the singer also called for thorough investigations by the EFCC before making arrests, emphasizing that not everyone who enjoys a luxurious lifestyle is involved in internet fraud. He urged the agency to distinguish between legitimate wealth and proceeds from fraudulent activities.
Portable’s comments highlight the broader societal issues tied to internet fraud and the importance of addressing both the root causes and the enforcement measures taken by authorities.
