Skales Reacts to Death of EFCC Officer in Anambra
Nigerian musician John Njeng-Ngeng, popularly known as Skales, has shared his thoughts on the recent killing of an officer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Anambra State. The officer was reportedly attacked by individuals suspected to be internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “yahoo boys.”
In a series of tweets, Skales expressed a conflicted reaction to the news. While acknowledging that the officer’s death was unfortunate, the artist hinted at a sense of inevitability, citing the EFCC’s controversial operational methods.
He also recounted his personal experience with the agency, alleging that EFCC officers once raided his home unannounced, leaving his family traumatized. Skales claimed the ordeal could have ended tragically if he had reacted differently. “They could have shot me and made up a story,” he wrote, describing how the incident forced his family to relocate to a hotel while he sought refuge at a friend’s home for three days.
The singer disclosed that even a year later, the incident still haunts his family. He used the occasion to criticize the EFCC, accusing the agency of adopting aggressive tactics that alienate the public.
Skales’ relationship with the EFCC has been strained since the alleged home invasion, and his latest comments add to a broader conversation about the agency’s methods and their impact on citizens.
