EasyJet Suspends Pilot After Drunken Naked Stroll in Cape Verde Hotel

An EasyJet captain has been grounded and placed under investigation after allegedly wandering naked through a luxury resort in Cape Verde following a night of heavy drinking.

The incident is said to have taken place in the early hours of 5 August at the five-star Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa. According to reports, the pilot – who has not been named – had spent much of the previous evening drinking at the hotel bar before stripping off and walking through public areas, including the reception, gym and spa.

Witnesses told The Sun newspaper that the man appeared visibly intoxicated. One source claimed, “Anyone who saw the pilot in that state wouldn’t dream of boarding a flight with him in charge.”

The pilot had been scheduled to fly a return service from Cape Verde to London Gatwick on 6 August, more than 36 hours later. However, after complaints were made to the airline, EasyJet arranged for another captain to operate the flight.

In a statement to the BBC, an EasyJet spokesperson confirmed that the pilot was “immediately stood down from duty, in line with our procedures, pending a full investigation.” The company stressed that “the safety of our passengers and crew is EasyJet’s highest priority.”

EasyJet’s code of ethics requires employees to act with integrity and uphold professional standards when representing the airline.
