2Baba Says Burna Boy Leads Nigeria’s Global Music Charge
Veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has weighed in on the long-running debate over Nigeria’s leading music stars, naming Burna Boy as the country’s most dominant Afrobeat artiste on the global stage.
The award-winning singer shared his views during a recent appearance on the Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, where discussions turned to the widely debated “Top 3” in Nigerian music.
The term, often referred to as the “Big 3,” is commonly used to describe Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido — artists widely recognised for pushing Nigerian music to international audiences and securing global acclaim.
While acknowledging the strengths of all three stars, 2Baba said Burna Boy currently stands out in terms of worldwide influence and reach.
“I have favourite songs from all three,” he said. “But I think Burna is on a different level right now. When it comes to musical influence and global presence, Burna Boy is currently at the top worldwide. That said, everyone is doing amazingly well.”
2Baba’s comments come amid ongoing conversations among fans and industry insiders about who truly leads Nigeria’s music export on the international scene, a debate that continues to fuel comparisons, chart analyses and online discussions.
Despite the differing opinions, the veteran artiste emphasized that all three musicians are thriving and contributing significantly to the global recognition of Nigerian music.
