Man Murders His Girlfriend But is More Concerned About ‘Missing’ GTA 6
A 35-year-old man convicted of murdering his former partner has been sentenced to life in prison by a UK court, with newly released police footage drawing widespread public attention.
Robert Richens was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on February 6, 2026, and will serve a minimum of 16 years before becoming eligible for parole. The conviction relates to the killing of Rachael Vaughan in May 2025.
According to a statement from Thames Valley Police, Richens contacted emergency services on the morning of May 30, claiming he had accidentally caused someone’s death. Officers who attended the scene later determined that Vaughan had been subjected to a prolonged assault.
During the sentencing, the judge described Richens’ actions as “callous” and “merciless,” noting that he had pleaded guilty to the offence.
In recent days, police body-worn camera footage from Richens’ arrest has circulated widely online. In the video, Richens is seen visibly distressed during the arrest and makes a remark about missing the release of the upcoming video game Grand Theft Auto VI. The exchange, which also shows an officer responding briefly to the comment, has prompted strong reactions on social media.
The footage has added a controversial dimension to an already serious case, though authorities have emphasized that it does not diminish the gravity of the crime or the sentence imposed.
Richens will serve his sentence within the UK prison system, where access to modern gaming consoles and internet-enabled devices is restricted.
Thames Valley Police reiterated that the case underscores the severe consequences of domestic violence and reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing justice for victims and their families.
Here’s the clip that surfaced recently on social media, showing Richens sobbing and lamenting the loss of Grand Theft Auto 6:
