Superboy Cheque Opens Up About Acne Struggles

Nigerian rapper and singer Superboy Cheque has revealed that his battle with acne once pushed him to the brink of quitting music.

In an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the artiste shared how severe skin issues earlier in his career took a toll on his confidence and nearly derailed his ambitions.

Cheque said he became deeply self-conscious about his appearance, especially after his breakout single “Zoom” gained attention and he signed a record deal. With more public appearances and media engagements ahead, he felt increasing pressure to look his best.

According to him, in an attempt to address the acne, he purchased a cosmetic product that worsened his condition and left his face severely affected. The experience, he said, was both embarrassing and emotionally draining.

The singer admitted that at the time, he struggled with self-esteem and found it difficult to be in front of cameras or interact socially. He added that the ordeal became a source of inspiration for his song “History,” which features fellow Nigerian artiste Fireboy DML.

Cheque’s revelation sheds light on the pressures faced by young entertainers in the public eye, particularly around image and self-perception, and how personal challenges can shape creative expression.
