France 2-1 Belgium: Hot Favourites Book Euro 2022 Quarter-Final Spot
France secured a spot in the Women’s Euro quarter-finals with a 2-1 win against Belgium in Group D at Rotherham’s New York Stadium, as reported by Daily Mail.
Kadidiatou Diani nodded in at the back post from Sakina Karchaoui’s excellent floated cross after just six minutes and it was one-way traffic for much of the first half as France, among the hot tournament favourites, dominated on Bastille Day.
There was late drama as referee Cheryl Foster awarded a controversial penalty after Amber Tysiak was adjudged to have handballed despite her hand being low and close to her side, Foster sending the centre half off for a second bookable offence.
France captain Wendie Renard, however, saw her weak spot-kick saved by Nicky Evrard and then horribly shanked the rebound wide with the goal gaping.
