Actor Lalude Says He Was Paid ₦10,000 Daily to Campaign for Tinubu, Regrets Endorsing President
Veteran Nollywood actor Lalude has revealed that he and other entertainers were given just ₦10,000 daily for feeding while campaigning for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.
In a video interview currently circulating on social media, the Yoruba film star expressed deep frustration over the economic hardship currently plaguing the country and claimed that the promises made to him and his colleagues during the campaign have yet to be fulfilled.
According to Lalude, he and several others campaigned across different regions for over a month without any formal payment, receiving only a modest feeding allowance which was inconsistently disbursed.
“They were giving us ₦10,000 daily for feeding,” he said. “It was supposed to be more for all the campaign efforts, but they decided to just give us ₦10,000. And when they realised we were saving the money, they sometimes cut it or stopped giving it for two to three days.”
Lalude added that despite working for over a month and three weeks, they were never paid for their services. He expressed bitterness over the experience, stating, “Those holding back our campaign payments will not be fortunate in life.”
His comments come shortly after fellow actor Alapini also expressed regret over supporting Tinubu, joining a growing chorus of entertainers who feel shortchanged and disillusioned nearly two years after the election.
Several Nollywood stars publicly backed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential race, including Saheed Balogun, Toyin Abraham, Bimbo Akintola, Eniola Badmus, Seyi Law, and Olaiya Igwe. Their support drew significant backlash from fans amid worsening economic conditions and rising insecurity under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
As discontent grows, many of the once vocal supporters of the current administration are now speaking out, reflecting a broader public sentiment of disappointment and unmet expectations.
